Andrea Skyberg

Artist/Author/Educator

Even though summer’s here, there’s no break for Shimmerling activities… and that’s a good thing!

I hosted the Bigs & Littles from the Big Brothers and Sisters of Milwaukee at the gallery for an author presentation and art workshop. A year ago I joined the BBBS of Milwaukee because I was booked for one of their events and saw first hand the positive work they’re doing. I was matched with a wonderful Little who’s an awesome artist and very creative.

Milwaukee Parkside School of the Arts held a fundraiser to raise money for an ambitious and very exciting project to turn their courtyard into an environmental learning center. Parkside is the school that helped me create the award-winning book CommuniTree. When I was with the students last year we worked in a classroom that overlooked the courtyard and I thought it would make a wonderful space for learning, so I’m very glad to help them raise money for this new project. Students, staff, and parents made raindrop shapes in the style of Shimmerling. These raindrops will be attached to cloud forms and will decorate the school.

I helped out my friend with FareWalk, to raise awareness for people with food allergies. It was a beautiful day to create artwork down by Lake Michigan.
